OpenFOAM Foundation Expo 2026
The OpenFOAM Foundation Expo 2026 is for current, new and prospective users of Foundation OpenFOAM (i.e. from here openfoam.org), who want to do better CFD with the software. It is an exhibition of OpenFOAM presented by CFD Direct, the producers and maintainers of Foundation OpenFOAM, including co-founders, Henry Weller (its creator) and Chris Greenshields. The Expo will be held twice in June 2026 at the following locations.
- 1-3 June 2026: OpenFOAM Foundation Expo Chicago (Naperville), USA
Northern Illinois University – Naperville Campus - 15-17 June 2026: OpenFOAM Foundation Expo London, UK
Institution of Mechanical Engineers

Why an “Expo”?
The Expo is an exposition (or exhibition) of Foundation OpenFOAM. It enables users of Foundation OpenFOAM to come together and hear about the product from its creators, CFD Direct. The team at CFD Direct will provide participants a packed programme full of useful sessions:
- demonstrations of novel case configuration, e.g. using coded input files;
- training on developing CFD models and the C++ programming language;
- discussions about deploying OpenFOAM and keeping up to date with the latest developments;
- talks about the past, present and future of OpenFOAM, including what’s coming in version 14.
Each participant will receive a manual of materials from the training sessions and a download link to the files from the demonstrations. The training and demonstrations are all new, so of interest to previous participants on our OpenFOAM training. The aim is for everyone to leave the event with greater confidence and understanding in all things related to Foundation OpenFOAM.
For the benefit of users
When CFD Direct staff pass on their knowledge and experience of CFD and OpenFOAM, the audience invariably wants more. For example, participants on its OpenFOAM Training usually return from their first course to attend the other courses in the catalogue. The Expo events therefore provide a platform to share more knowledge and experience, including aspects of OpenFOAM that do not make it into training courses, e.g. background to the code, how it is produced, how to upgrade versions and future plans. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate new code features and experiment with new ideas. It will include discussions on topics such as hardware and visualisation, with guests presenters.
Without wasting time
The Expo is an alternative to conferences where participants sit through talks by users of OpenFOAM who often lack experience and familiarity with the software. Advice contained in the talks can be misleading or incorrect; participants can rarely reproduce the described work since information is incomplete and cases and code are not made available. The Expo will not waste time with promotions from sponsoring companies selling commercial add-on features. The aim instead is to use all the time as productively as possible and deliver great value for the ticket price.
